Archery

There are some great movie titles out there with this fantastic sport, Robin Hood, Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, Brave and Avengers just to name a few.  There is also amazing history associated with the sport dating back more than 10,000 years.  It was a formidable weapon of it’s time for both hunting and during the times of war.  Now it is considered a sport, and has been in both the Commonwealth Games as well as the Olympic Games.

Archery takes many forms, and there are a lot of disciplines as well.  Here are a couple of examples.

• Target, shooting at the classic target face white, black, blue, red and gold.  This is over a range of distances depending on the shoot itself.
• Field, is a more hunter like activity, wandering a trail in the woods or uneven ground to seek out the next target (usually 3D).  You are then pitted against obstacles in the way of the target, trees, grass, stones and many other enemies to the poor arrow.
• Clout, long distance shooting from 120-180yds depending on age and ability.  The aim is to land the arrows in the target circles on the floor, or the big target in the centre of the circles.
• Popinjay, fun, fun, fun, this is an activity we are currently developing and hope to include in the future.  The aim is to use blunt arrows to knock artificial birds off of a perch which are some distance up a pole.  More points gathered for the type of bird you hit.

At My Expedition Rocks we endeavour to provide a fun target archery experience, but also challenge you to hit the ‘Wand’.  A thin stick at the same distance as the targets, can you hit it?  A glance doesn’t count.
