Instructor Bio

I’ve alway been “outdoorsy” and I’m lucky enough to be working as an outdoor instructor full time. After completing the Fast Track Instructor Program at Plas-y-Brenin, I was unsure what I wanted to do. I spent a short time as a volunteer youth worker, which is when I first had a taste of training those participating in the Duke of Edinburgh award. Two years on and I’m either training or assessing at all levels, and the satisfaction and rewards of doing so are immeasurable.
I’m a big fan of having a go at anything, I’ve climbed, abseiled, kayaked white water and paddled on the sea. I like to wild camp, walk rolling hills or complete more arduous mountain walks and I’m well travelled. Passing on those experiences to encourage others and to then watch them succeed is incredibly fulfilling. Like most instructors I like a good cafe preferably with cake, failing that, cheese on toast works too.

2016 marked the end of my somewhat adventurous lifestyle and I found myself back in an office doing something I enjoyed, but I hated being in an office and in a suit for the best part of the day and so in November 2017, at the age of 44, I made the jump into the outdoor industry……….it was the best decision I had made in my life.

Just over a year has past since I left the security of a regular income and 2018 was an incredible year working with a leading provider of Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition training. The next 12 months looks equally exciting and so please join me on my journey by following any of my social media sites.
